Sylvester Manor CSA

CSA 2012 Handbook

What’s a CSA? Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a movement that developed about 20 years ago.  It has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer.  The farmers offers a certain number of  ‘shares’ to the public, who invest early in the year, helping the farmer with the early expenses of farming. The produce is distributed during the growing season, with successes and losses spread amongst the
farmer and the community, who become in effect, co-producers.  Often CSA members help with farm work or distribution.

This is the fourth year for the Sylvester Manor CSA. We have expanded the membership to include 119 families, and hope to expand it further in future years.  The excess produce is offered for sale at our farmstand located at Sylvester Manor’s Windmill Field at 21 Manwaring Road.

This farm brings the community together around food.  At Sylvester Manor, we celebrate fresh seasonal produce with respect for the sense of place, for history, and with traditional and innovative participatory arts: exploring all that Sylvester Manor has represented over 350 years.

We have young farmers, volunteers, musicians, and historians involved in our program, and we welcome your interest.  As a work in progress, we are growing with the help of our community.  Join us!
